Suzanne Houle is an attorney with the Bishop Law Group, and is barred in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the United States District Court of Maryland. Suzanne’s primary practice areas are criminal defense, DUI/DWI defense, plaintiff’s personal injury, traffic matters, and MVA and administrative hearings.
Suzanne’s interest in becoming an attorney started at a very young age. Suzanne grew up in Hyattsville, Maryland with her parents and older sister. Her late father, Phil, was an attorney and a natural advocate for those who didn’t have a voice. From a young age, he instilled in Suzanne that good people can often find themselves in difficult situations and to never pass judgment on someone else because you could never truly understand what that person was going through. It was at that young age that Suzanne realized the importance of being a voice for those who needed it the most.
When Suzanne was a young attorney, her personal life was completely turned upside down when her own mother sustained a life-altering severe traumatic brain injury from a car accident, that changed the trajectory of her family’s life. Suzanne, and her family, spent the next several years by her mother’s side, walking her through countless hospitalizations, surgeries, and rehabilitation efforts, all while advocating for her to get the care and services that she needed. It was through this experience that Suzanne was able to see just how critical having a dedicated advocate was.
Suzanne’s own personal experience allows her to relate to her personal injury clients, and their families, on a deeper level. She has been in their shoes and knows their pain. The experience was so life-altering that Suzanne knew that she was called to be an advocate for the injured and to be there for clients in their times of greatest need. Suzanne is passionate about her cases and her clients. She has developed a reputation as an attorney that is detail-oriented, has a heart of excellence, and goes above and beyond for her clients. Suzanne’s philosophy is to treat every single client like they are a member of her family.
Prior to joining the Bishop Law Group, Suzanne started her practice in 2011, where she maintained an extensive criminal and traffic practice in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Howard County and handled hundreds of criminal and traffic cases across the state of Maryland. After several years of maintaining her own practice, in 2018 Suzanne joined a boutique law firm in Annapolis, Maryland. Suzanne practiced there for six years, honing and developing her craft as a skilled criminal defense attorney and litigator, handling hundreds of cases, ranging from simple traffic cases to complex felonies.
Suzanne has been very active in the Maryland legal community. She’s a Maryland Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association (MCDAA) member and has chaired the Mentorship and Special Projects Committees of the Maryland State Bar Association, Young Lawyer’s Division. Suzanne has been recognized as a Rising Star in Super Lawyers Magazine from 2014 – 2024. In 2013, she received the Howard County Bar Association Service Award. Suzanne’s writings include Juvenile Justice is Not Just Kid Stuff: The Forgotten Side of Fairness and Due Process, 9 Dartmouth Law Journal 87 (Fall 2011).
Suzanne currently resides in Baltimore with her husband, Brian, her son, and their two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys exploring different cities and towns in Maryland, spending time with her husband and son, and retreating to Ocean City, Maryland on the weekends.
